Understanding Your NDIS Core Supports Budget

Learn how to make the most of your Core Supports funding — from daily living assistance to consumables and community participation.

What Are Core Supports?

Your NDIS Core Supports budget is designed to help you with everyday activities and to work toward your goals. It is the most flexible part of your plan and is broken into four categories: Assistance with Daily Life, Transport, Consumables, and Assistance with Social and Community Participation.

Breaking Down the Four Categories

Assistance with Daily Life covers personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, and in-home support. Transport helps you get to appointments, work, or social activities. Consumables include everyday items you might need because of your disability — think continence aids or low-cost assistive technology.

Flexibility Between Categories

The good news? Core Supports funding is flexible across the four categories. If you do not spend all your daily living budget, you can often reallocate it toward community participation or transport. This flexibility lets you respond to what you actually need each week, not what was predicted at plan time.

Tracking Your Spending

To get the most from your Core Supports, keep a simple record of your spending and review it monthly. Talk to your support coordinator or plan manager if you are unsure where your money is going. Small adjustments early can prevent bigger problems later.
