What Does NDIS Daily Living Support Actually Include?

From showering and dressing to meal prep and household tasks — here is what daily living support looks like in practice.

The Backbone of Your Plan

Assistance with Daily Living is the backbone of most NDIS plans. It covers the practical help you need to live safely and comfortably at home. But what exactly does that include?

Personal Care Support

Personal care is the most common daily living support. This includes help with showering, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and managing continence. A good support worker performs these tasks with dignity, respect, and sensitivity to your preferences.

Household Tasks

Household tasks are also covered. This includes cleaning, laundry, changing bed linen, and basic home maintenance. If your disability makes these tasks difficult or impossible, you can include them in your plan.

Meal Preparation

Meal preparation is another key area. Support workers can help plan meals, shop for groceries, prepare food, and support you to develop cooking skills if that is one of your goals. Some participants use this funding to build toward cooking independently.

Transport Assistance

Transport assistance falls under daily living too. Your worker can drive you to appointments, help you use public transport, or accompany you to social activities. This is often life-changing for participants who have been isolated at home.

Tailored to You

The important thing to remember is that daily living support should be tailored to you. It is not a one-size-fits-all package. Your worker should understand your routines, respect your choices, and adapt as your needs change.
