Preparing for Your NDIS Plan Review: A Practical Checklist

Plan reviews can feel stressful. Here is a simple checklist to help you prepare, present your case, and get the supports you actually need.

Understanding Plan Reviews

NDIS plan reviews happen every 12 months, or sooner if your circumstances change significantly. Being prepared makes a huge difference to the outcome. Here is a practical checklist to help you get ready.

Review Your Current Plan

First, review your current plan. What worked? What did not? Where did you run out of funding, and where did you have money left over? Write this down — it is evidence the planner needs to see.

Gather Provider Reports

Gather reports from your providers. Therapists, support workers, and coordinators should all provide progress reports showing what you have achieved and what still needs support. These reports carry weight in review meetings.

Set New Goals

Think about your goals for the next 12 months. Have they changed? Are you aiming for more independence, a new job, or different living arrangements? New goals often require new funding categories.

Bring an Advocate

Consider bringing an advocate. This could be a family member, support coordinator, or formal advocate. They can help you express your needs clearly and ensure nothing is missed.

Make Clear Requests

Finally, practice explaining your needs in simple terms. Planners respond well to clear, specific requests backed by evidence. Vague statements like "I need more help" are less effective than "I need 10 hours per week of daily living support because my current 6 hours is not enough to maintain hygiene and meal routines."
